Connect Hermes and send your first task

AAMG connects the App on your phone to Hermes on your machine.

The Gateway is the AAMG service that connects the App and Hermes. The Connector is the program on your Hermes machine.

AAMG is a commercial freemium product. You can start free with your own Hermes agent.

Paid plans are not available. Prices and additional functions for paid plans are not available.

You pay the costs for your machine and model provider.

1. Prepare your equipment and account

You need these items:

Do a normal chat in Hermes before you start these instructions.

Run node --version to see the Node.js version.

Run npm --version to make sure that npm is available.

2. Install the App and create an account

Android beta APK. An APK is an Android installation file. This APK has a test signing key, not a store upload key.

There is no store listing. There is no iOS download. The App connects to https://aamg-api-staging.azuddin.com.

CAUTION: If you do not trust this distribution, do not install this APK. An untrusted APK can put your data at risk.

  1. Select Download Android 0.17.2 (100).
  2. Open the APK on your phone.
  3. If Android requests permission, permit installation from this source.
  4. Open the App.
  5. Create an AAMG account with your email address and a password.

3. Install and pair the Connector

Pairing connects your Hermes identity to your AAMG account. This procedure installs production Connector 0.5.2.

CAUTION: Do not run these commands as root. Use the same user account and environment that you use for Hermes.

  1. On the machine that runs Hermes, open a terminal.
  2. Run the installation command:
npm install --global https://aamg-download-staging.azuddin.com/releases/aamg-hermes-adapter-staging-v0.5.2.tgz

Run the pairing command:

hermes-connector connect

The terminal shows the Gateway address, a QR code, and a copyable amg://pair?... link.

The pairing link expires after five minutes. You can use the link only once. The link contains no permanent device credential.

CAUTION: Do not share the pairing link. Another person can use the link to claim the pairing request.

  1. Keep the terminal open.
  2. On your phone, scan the QR code with the Camera app. Alternatively, open the copyable link on your phone.
  3. Make sure that the App shows the Hermes identity that you intend to connect.
  4. Make sure that the Gateway address in the App matches the address in the terminal.
  5. Make sure that both addresses are https://aamg-api-staging.azuddin.com.
  6. If the identity or address is incorrect, cancel the pairing request.
  7. If the identity and address are correct, approve the pairing request in the App.
  8. Wait for Connected: device … is paired with … in the terminal.
  9. Wait for the command to return.

The App has no QR scanner. The Connector creates its keypair on your machine.

The Connector receives the device credential directly. The App does not show the permanent device credential.

You do not need to paste an API key. The Connector does not open an inbound network port.

4. Start the Connector and send a task

After the pairing command returns, install the background service:

hermes-connector service install

Run the status command:

hermes-connector status

Make sure that the status shows your intended agent.

Make sure that the status shows https://aamg-api-staging.azuddin.com.

Make sure that the status is connected.

  1. In the App, select Conversations.
  2. Select New.
  3. If the conversation list stays open, select Hide conversations.
  4. In the message box, type Reply with: AAMG is connected.
  5. Select Send.
  6. Make sure that the selected conversation shows the agent reply AAMG is connected.
  7. Make sure that the task status is complete.

Your sent message is not the agent reply.

If the App reports an offline agent or a queued message, run hermes-connector status.

If the connection fails, use the advanced troubleshooting instructions.

5. Keep the connection available

Keep the machine online. Keep the Connector service active.

To see the connection state, run hermes-connector status.

The service can continue after you close the terminal. The service cannot continue after you shut down the machine.

Beta limits

The following functions are beta capabilities, not release guarantees:

Android permissions and network conditions affect notifications. Android force-stop can prevent notifications.

Keep the machine and the Connector online. Read the task result in the App. Do not depend only on a notification.

If an approval request appears, use the controls for that request.

If an input request appears, use the controls for that request.

An ordinary chat message does not answer an approval request or an input request.

AAMG does not receive every native Hermes tool confirmation.

6. Protect your data and credentials

Data on your machine

Hermes, its tools, and its model-provider credentials stay on your machine. Hermes sends requests to the model providers that you select.

The Gateway does not run your agent. The Gateway does not pay your model-provider costs.

Data at the Gateway

The Gateway stores your account information, conversation messages, task state, task events, and uploaded task files.

The Gateway can read this content. HTTPS protects the connection. AAMG does not provide end-to-end encryption.

CAUTION: Do not send secrets in messages or task files. Messages and tool output can expose private data.

Device credentials

The Connector keeps its device credential in an owner-only file. The Gateway stores a hash of the device credential.

Do not share passwords, pairing links, credential files, or model keys.

Access removal

To stop the Connector service on your machine, run:

hermes-connector service uninstall

This command stops the service. This command does not revoke the device credential at the Gateway.

This Android beta has no device-revocation button. Revocation prevents a device credential from connecting again.

For a lost or unwanted device, use the contact links on the public site of the maker.

Ask the maker to revoke the device credential.

A new pairing creates a new device credential. A new pairing does not restore a revoked device credential.

For assistance, use the contact links on the public site of the maker.

Do not include credentials, pairing links, or private conversation content.

There is no response-time commitment or paid support plan.
